Terms of Engagement
Last updated August 7, 2026
The short version: this website is information, an engagement letter is the relationship, and nothing here is advice for your specific situation until we’re engaged.
Information, not advice
Everything on this site, including the Insights articles, is general information. Tax law changes, and general commentary can never account for your facts. Nothing on this site is tax, legal, accounting, or investment advice to you, and you should not act on it without advice that considers your situation.
No CPA-client relationship by browsing or inquiring
Reading this site, submitting the intake form, emailing us, or booking a consultation does not create a CPA-client relationship. That relationship begins only when both you and the firm sign an engagement letter, after we’ve confirmed scope, fit, and any conflicts. Until then, the firm is not your accountant and has no duty to act on your matters.
The engagement letter controls
When you do engage the firm, the signed engagement letter defines the scope of work, fees, responsibilities, and terms. If anything on this website conflicts with an engagement letter, the engagement letter wins. Fee figures shown on this site are current guidance and are confirmed in the engagement letter after a scope review.
Deadlines and notices
Until an engagement letter is signed, filing deadlines, notice response dates, and payment dates remain your responsibility. IRS and state notices are time-sensitive: if you have one, please say so in your inquiry and don’t wait on a response before protecting a deadline.
Send information safely
Please don’t send Social Security numbers, EINs, account numbers, or tax documents through the intake form or ordinary email. After we connect, documents move through the secure Encyro portal. See the Privacy Policy for how inquiry information is handled.
Third-party services
Scheduling (TidyCal) and secure document exchange (Encyro) are provided by third parties under their own terms and privacy policies. Links to outside resources are provided for convenience; the firm is not responsible for their content.
About this site
We work to keep the site accurate and available, but it is provided as-is, without warranties, and may contain content that has been overtaken by later changes in law. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the firm disclaims liability arising from use of this website (as distinct from services under a signed engagement letter).
These terms are governed by California law, and any dispute relating to this website belongs in the state or federal courts located in Alameda County, California. Site content is © Assres CPA; brief quotation with attribution is welcome, republication requires permission.
